Canopy pricing in 2026: what each of the 4 plans costs

Canopy pricing runs $74 to $149 per user per month across 4 plans. See what each tier includes, add-on costs, and how the total looks by firm size in 2026.

Canopy pricing starts at $74 per user per month, with a custom Enterprise tier for bigger firms.

I'll walk through the exact numbers in the table right below, but first, let's clear up which Canopy we're even talking about, because the search results are a mess. This is Canopy, the accounting practice management software at getcanopy.com. It's not the parental-control app, the Canopy Connect insurance tool, or an actual backyard tent.

Once you're on the right Canopy, the pricing itself has a bigger problem. A lot of what shows up when you search for it is just outdated. Canopy dropped its old modular pricing this year and moved to 4 bundled per-user plans.

I went through Canopy's current pricing page myself to make sure what's here matches what you'll see if you sign up today.

2 things to keep in mind:

  • Premium isn't purchasable yet: It still carries a "coming soon" badge as of October 2026, so keep in mind that you can't buy it yet.
  • There's no free plan or self-serve checkout: Every plan routes through "Take a tour" or "Get a demo," so even a trial starts with a sales conversation.

Canopy pricing breakdown

Canopy structures its plans around automation depth. Every tier includes the full platform, so the real decision is how much reporting, capacity planning, and workflow automation your firm needs.

Here's what each plan includes:

Standard: $93/user/month or $74/user/month billed annually

  • What's included: CRM and client management, document management with eSign, a client portal with secure messaging, automated and recurring task workflows, and invoicing and payments.
  • Best for: Firms that want the complete platform at the lowest per-seat price.
  • Pros: Nothing critical sits behind a higher tier. You get the full platform on day one.
  • Cons: No user roles, capacity planning, or custom reporting, so a growing team can outgrow it fast.
  • What's included: Everything in Standard, plus user roles and access controls, more client intake capacity, advanced task views and filters, capacity planning and forecasting, and custom reporting.
  • Best for: Growing firms that need real permissions and reporting once a flat setup stops working.
  • Pros: Adds meaningful admin controls and reporting without jumping to the top tier.
  • Cons: The deepest automation and billing scenarios are still reserved for Premium.

Premium: $186/user/month or $149/user/month billed annually (coming soon)

  • What's included: Everything in Plus, plus advanced workflows and automation, advanced billing scenarios, and deep reporting and insights.
  • Best for: Large firms that want the deepest automation Canopy offers.
  • Pros: Bundles Canopy's most advanced workflow and billing tools into one tier.
  • Cons: It's not purchasable yet. The badge on Canopy's pricing page marks it "coming soon" as of October 2026.

Enterprise: Custom pricing

  • What's included: A plan built around your firm's setup, so Canopy can work alongside whatever other software you keep.
  • Best for: Firms with 200 or more people.
  • Pros: Canopy works directly with your team to configure the plan around your specific needs.
  • Cons: Setup isn't self-serve. Since Canopy builds this tier around your specific configuration, expect a longer runway to get live compared to picking a published tier and starting right away.

What you'll pay on top of the plan: add-ons

The plan price covers the core platform, but a handful of things sit outside it, and that's where your bill can start creeping up.

Expect to pay extra for:

  • Tax Workflow Automation: You'll pay from $34 per client credit, billed annually, with volume discounts kicking in as you scale. It covers Canopy's AI-driven tax workflow, everything from intake through final delivery.
  • Close Automation: This runs $10 per connected client per month, and your first five connections come included. It handles month-end close and checks the health of your books across every client.
  • Tax Resolution: This one's $50 per user per month, and it covers IRS transcript pulling, notice tracking, and access to more than 200 federal and state forms.
  • KBA credits: These cost $1.25 per knowledge-based-authentication credit, and you add them as you need them.

If you collect payments through Canopy, there are payment processing fees to factor in. Cards run 3.30% plus $0.20 per transaction, and ACH runs 1%, capped at $10.

How much Canopy costs by firm size

Per-user Canopy software pricing sounds simple until you multiply it by your team. Every seat is billed, so your headcount is what drives your bill.

What a firm pays per month and per year on the 2 most common plans:

Team size

Standard ($74/user)

Plus ($109/user)

1 user

$74/month, $888/year

$109/month, $1,308/year

5 users

$370/month, $4,440/year

$545/month, $6,540/year

10 users

$740/month, $8,880/year

$1,090/month, $13,080/year

A five-person firm on Standard is looking at $4,440 a year before a single add-on. Put that same team on Plus and it's $6,540.

And remember, the add-ons from the last section stack on top of these seat totals, so a firm leaning on Tax Resolution or Close Automation should budget above the base line.

Is Canopy worth the cost?

Canopy earns its price when your firm wants one workspace for clients, documents, billing, and workflow. Whether it's worth it for you comes down to how much of that platform you'll put to work.

Here's how I'd decide:

  • It's worth it if: You manage recurring client work, want built-in billing, and like having everything from document storage to client messaging in one place.
  • It's best for: Accounting teams that have outgrown spreadsheets or email-based tracking and want organized, audit-ready records with secure client access.
  • Skip it if: You only need basic document storage or time tracking. Lighter, single-purpose apps handle those jobs for less.

In my opinion, Canopy gives you structure and visibility once it's set up. The honest trade-off is the per-seat model. Because every user is billed, cost scales in a straight line with headcount. A ten-person firm pays ten times the seat price, and there's no per-workspace ceiling to grow into.

Canopy alternatives

If per-seat pricing has you looking around, a few platforms cover similar ground. Here are the 3 alternatives that come up often for accounting and tax firms:

Tool Starting price Best for
Assembly $29/month A branded client experience without per-seat billing
TaxDome $800/user/year (1-yr commitment) Unlimited clients and storage in one flat plan
Karbon $59/user/month Teams that run out of their inbox and want workflow visibility

Billed annually

Assembly

Assembly isn't built to compete with Canopy's tax-specific depth, and I won't pretend otherwise. What it gives you is a way to build the client-facing side of your practice from a prompt or a ready-made template.

With Assembly’s AI app builder, you can build a billing app for branded invoices, a deals pipeline for tracking prospective clients, an intake form, or a synced QuickBooks or Xero integration. Everything you create ships into a branded client experience your firm already runs.

Paid plans start at $29 per month billed annually.

TaxDome

TaxDome starts at $800 per year, per user on a 1-year commitment and targets accounting and bookkeeping firms that want a single platform for document management, client portals, and automation. It includes unlimited clients, eSignatures, and storage at no extra cost.

The flat-rate structure gives predictable pricing, but customization gets tight once your workflows grow complex. I think it's a solid fit for firms that value simplicity and automation, though larger practices may want to check whether TaxDome's reporting and integrations go as deep as their setup needs.

If you want to learn more, I also did a TaxDome vs Canopy comparison.

Karbon

Karbon is priced from $59 per user per month and focuses on workflow visibility and email-driven collaboration. It helps teams assign jobs, manage recurring tasks, and keep track of client communication directly from the inbox.

The platform holds up well for internal coordination, but I've found it leaves less room for client-facing tools. You'll get detailed task tracking and workflow dashboards, but features like billing and secure client portals require pairing it with another system.

If you're weighing it against a workflow-first rival, I broke that down in my Karbon vs Canopy comparison.

Canopy vs Assembly: per-seat vs per-workspace

Canopy bills you for every person on your team. Assembly bills for the workspace and includes a set number of people in the price. Compare them below:

Dimension Canopy Assembly
Pricing model Per user, every seat billed Per workspace, internal users included
Starting price $74/user/month (billed annually) $29/month billed annually (Starter)
Internal users included None, each user is a paid seat 1 Starter, 3 Professional, 5 Advanced
Clients/contacts included Not seat-limited 50 Starter, 500 Professional, unlimited Advanced
Payment fees Cards 3.30% + $0.20; ACH 1% (cap $10) Cards 2.9% + $0.30; ACH 1% (capped at $10 from Professional up)

Assembly vs Canopy: Which should you choose?

Canopy's pricing is easy to read at a glance, and it stays the same whether you're a 2-person firm or a 50-person one. The catch is that every person is a full seat, so your bill climbs in a straight line as you hire, with no ceiling to grow into.

Assembly works differently. Its paid plans include a set number of internal users right in the price, so bringing on a new teammate inside your tier doesn't touch your bill at all.

Here's how I'd sort the fit:

  • Canopy is better for: Firms that want deep, tax-specific practice management and don't mind paying per seat as the team grows.
  • Assembly is better for: Firms that want to build the client-facing side of their practice, things like onboarding, billing, and intake, without paying more every time they hire.
  • Use both if: You keep Canopy running your tax and accounting workflows and bring in Assembly to build the client-facing side.

My bottom line on Canopy pricing

My honest take: Canopy's pricing is straightforward until it isn't.

The per-seat math is easy to do, but there's no ceiling on it. Once you add Tax Resolution or Close Automation on top, the total creeps past the plan price you started with. I'd want to see that total, seats plus add-ons, before assuming Standard at $74 is what I'd actually pay.

I also can't ignore that Premium isn't purchasable yet and there's no self-serve signup anywhere on the page. For software this price, I expected at least a trial I could start without booking a call first.

None of that makes Canopy a bad buy, but I'd want to be confident I'm using the tax-specific depth before committing to a model that charges me for every hire, indefinitely.
